Caravaggio created one of his most admired altarpieces, "The Entombment of Christ", in 1603-1604 for the second chapel on the right in Santa Maria in Vallicella. Caravaggio's painting is a visual counterpart to the Mass, with the priest raising the newly consecrated host with the Entombment as a backdrop - the act perfectly aligning the host with the body in the painting as the priest intones "This is my body."
