Raised in an Army family, he would serve as an Army chaplain, enter seminary and be ordained for the Diocese of Phoenix in 2001. Father Kunkel began making rosaries to help fund scholarships for students at Saint Thomas School, and has continued to grow his craft over the years, sourcing his beads and crosses from around the world.

In addition to his priestly duties, he is an avid professional photographer. The gift of his keen artistic eye he says, has allowed him to, ".....pay attention to the beauty all around me that I might not otherwise notice. Sometimes, I'm actually thanking God as I take the pictures because what He has created is so amazing! It gives me joy to see other people find wonder and awe in God's Beauty I was able to capture."
