In this visionary composition, artist Kevin Pawlowski depicts Saint John the Apostle overwhelmed with reverent awe as he beholds his heavenly vision of the New Jerusalem. Inspired by the book of Revelation, the artwork captures the dramatic moment of divine revelation when the beloved disciple is granted a glimpse of the eternal, glorified holy city descending from God out of heaven.
John’s posture and expressive gaze reflect a profound mix of wonder, humility, and spiritual contemplation. In his hand, he holds an eagle’s feather used as a writing quill, alluding to Saint John’s traditional apostolic symbol. Pawlowski uses dynamic light, radiant color, and structured form to convey the contrast between the earthly apostle recording sacred scripture and the transcendent splendor of the heavenly realm.
Commissioned as part of a sacred mosaic series for Transfiguration Catholic Church, this work invites the viewer to share in Saint John’s mystical experience and contemplate the ultimate promise of eternal hope and glorious restoration.
