In this intimate and deeply touching scene, artist Kevin Pawlowski captures a tender moment of fatherly love between Saint Joseph and the young Jesus. Joseph presents the child with a hand-carved toy lamb, sparking pure delight and excitement in the boy Jesus. The simple gift serves as a profound foreshadowing of Christ’s ultimate identity as the Lamb of God.
Pawlowski depicts Saint Joseph with the rugged, strong hands of a hard-working carpenter and mason, contrasting his physical strength with gentle, patient warmth. Clad in humble garments, Joseph wears a striking purple working apron, a rich theological detail that subtly references his royal lineage as a direct descendant of King David.
Commissioned as part of a sacred mosaic series for Transfiguration Catholic Church, this composition balances human affection with divine destiny, making it a powerful meditation on fatherhood, family, and the early life of Christ.
