Sip into History: Ancient Mosaics with Micah Andrews

Sip into History: Ancient Roman Mosaics, Wine & Art
Join us for the Summer Special Edition of Sip into History, an unforgettable evening exploring the beauty and legacy of Ancient Roman and Byzantine mosaics through wine, art, and hands-on discovery.
Hosted by The Sacred Art Gallery and featuring Byzantine mosaic artist Micah Andrews, this immersive event invites guests to step back into the world of ancient Rome while enjoying fine Italian wines and artisanal cheeses surrounded by authentic handmade mosaics.
Throughout the evening, Micah Andrews will guide attendees through the fascinating history and evolution of mosaic art — from the pagan Roman Empire to the rise of the Christian Roman (Byzantine) tradition. Guests will also receive a rare hands-on opportunity to handle and learn about the creation of exquisite 24K gold and white gold tesserae, still handcrafted in Venice, Italy using centuries-old methods. These luminous materials continue to adorn the walls of the Vatican and some of the world’s most beautiful churches.
Continue your journey into the ancient world by learning how traditional mosaics are created using natural stone, fine Italian marble, and hand-poured smalti glass imported directly from the famed Murano glassmakers of Venice. Using traditional hand tools that have remained virtually unchanged since Roman times, you’ll discover the techniques and craftsmanship passed down through generations of Venetian artisans.
This one-of-a-kind evening promises to inspire, educate, and immerse guests in the timeless beauty of sacred mosaic art.
