She began her art studies at Saint Dominic College in Saint Charles, Illinois, receiving a Bachelor in Arts degree in Fine Arts. After being immersed in many techniques and mediums, Bertica was most attracted to oil painting and drawing. Upon graduation, she furthered her academic studies choosing to concentrate in the classical and realistic style.
\r\nThrough art she has discovered that the ability to see light and shadow and learning to recognize beauty in the simplest object, not only leads to joy but provides a valuable learning tool. Bertica considers herself privileged to have had the opportunity to develop a trained eye and hopes that through her works others will come to see and appreciate the beauty and goodness of God's creation.
\r\nCritics have described her style as realistic in nature, and her paintings as figurative works that tell a story with warmth and feeling.
\r\nOver the course of her career, Ms. Garci\u00ada Dubus has participated in solo and collective exhibitions in the United States and in the Dominican Republic. On three separate occasions her works won awards at the Bienal E. Leon Jimenes in Santiago, Dominican Republic, perhaps the country's most prestigious juried art exposition. She is consistently commissioned \"privately and publicly\" to create specific works which hang in private homes and institutions.
\r\nShe is presently is teaching art to students Kindergarten through 8th. grade at St. Theresa Catholic School in Phoenix, Arizona. Her mission is to develop and teach an art program that will not only open her students' eyes to the world of beauty, but encourage creativity and self expression. She believes that all students benefit greatly through art as it helps them relate visual knowledge to other core subjects.
