While there, Gibby was befriended and tutored by many prominent artists. Growing up in Southern California in the foothills outside of Riverside, he developed a love of the outdoors and wildlife. His father taught him about craftsmanship doing construction work during the summers and as a wood shop teacher. Gibby's grandfather was an prolific landscape and wildlife oil painter from Utah, and greatly added to his art understanding. After four years of high school art instruction, he received further art training from professional artist Judy Eriksen, who encouraged him to make art his career.

Working 12 hour days for six years, for the foundry and on his own work, it wasn't long before he was selling and growing his works into a portfolio that was being noticed by galleries and notable clients. His works are now seen in private and corporate collections across the nation.

Today Gibby enjoys the adventure of raising seven children with his wife Aimee in Utah, having recently moved from Pea Ridge, AR. He expresses, "They, with God, are the center of my world, and my main motivation to continue to create beautiful art." His children are his biggest fans and most brutal art critics. His wife is ever supportive and encouraging. His favorite activity with his children is to take them fishing to their favorite stream just up the road and leading the little ones around on the family horse, "Famous."
