He received a formal education from the University of Arizona with a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree (1980) in Studio Art and a minor in Art History. Following graduation, Brian worked in art related professions for a number of years before devoting full time to his sculpture.
Early in his art career, Brian worked as a Scientific Illustrator in the archeology academia in Arizona, California, and Hawaii. Combined with an interest in his Gaelic ancestry, he became aware of the similarities in the spiritual art of these native peoples. This captured his interest so he began to explore the similarities between Native American and Gaelic spirituality in more detail.
Brian started an independent research program, taking continuing education courses such as Liturgical Art and Architecture from the University of St. Mary's of the Lake, Mundelein, IL, Religious Symbology, and Celtic Christianity from various sources.
The result of this research is a deep appreciation of the cultural and mythological aspects of spirituality and how it relates to a peoples culture. Brian applies this perspective to his liturgical work keeping within the requirements of the Church but letting go of all constraints for his personal work.
