Behold the Lamb of God

“Behold The Lamb of God” is a bold portrayal of The Holy Family present at the Holy Sacrifice of the Eucharist.
My love for The Blessed Sacrament is expressed here at the moment of the Elevation - when the priest lifts the consecrated body and blood of Jesus at the altar. The focus is the Consecrated Host emanating rays of red and blue which represent the blood and water flowing from the heart of Jesus. The red of Our Lord's blood of Mercy is also reflected in the Priest’s vestments and the baptismal blue in Our Blessed Mother’s mantle. Saint Joseph is adorned in a humble gold and brown cloak, in his role of protector of Jesus and Mary.
The model for the priest here is Father Sheunesu Bowora. I have been to many Masses celebrated by Fr. Shea and I have always been touched by his devotion to the Blessed Sacrament. His expression of reverence and awe as well as his expressive hands made him a great model for me to use.
The title “Behold the Lamb of God” is painted in Latin (“Ecce Agnus Dei”) across the bottom of the painting. These were the words spoken by John the Baptist, in the Gospel of John 1:29 - “Behold, the Lamb of God, behold Him who takes away the sins of the world”.
Our Lord invites us to receive His Body and Blood in the Eucharist. The culmination of our redemption now transcends our intellect of word and faith to the actual eating and consuming of Our Lord Jesus Christ.
Eternal Father, I offer You the Body and Blood, Soul and Divinity of Your Dearly Beloved Son, Our Lord Jesus Christ in atonement for our sins and those of the whole world.
