Fernando has been dedicated to wood sculpture since he was 14 when he quit high school and, following the path of many generations in his family, joined a team of apprentices and artisans in his father’s small workshop. At that time, his father was known as the best wood carving sculptor in Apaseo. Some years later, Girón started his own workshop specializing in sacred art. By the time of his father’s retirement, Fernando had gained the reputation of the highest quality wood artisan in Apaseo, even surpassing the quality of his father’s work.
At Saint Daniel the Prophet Catholic Parish, in Scottsdale, Arizona, you can admire an astonishing Crucifix created by Girón based on the Sacred Shroud of Turin, as well as other magnificent sculptures and adornments of the sanctuary and around the ceiling of the church - all wood-carved, oil painted, and 24 karat gold gilded.
Fernando is very humble and even shy and he remains working in his modest workshop applying the same ancient techniques he inherited from his father.
