"The story of Mary Magdalene and the other women discovering the empty tomb (& then the risen Christ) first on Easter morning is central to my personal faith as a Christian woman. It assures me that in a world of male-dominated politics and subordination of women, Jesus sees things differently and He trusted them first with the greatest revelation of His Kingdom.
"Regarding this painting in particular, there are 3 light sources. One is the lamp carried by the women, a human construction which serves a purpose. The second is the beginning of the sunrise behind the crosses in the distance, a product of God’s creation. And of course 3rd is the light from the tomb, the promise of the Resurrection as the brightest light of all!" --Jen Norton
