The Resurrection Relief

by Miles Tucker

Size: 14x18
Medium: Bronze

The 15th Station with Bronze frame

This piece is a depiction of the moment Jesus arose from his burial in the tomb and conquered death once and for all. The angels are with him in the tomb, preparing him for the next forty days he would spend on earth before his ascension to his Heavenly Father. In the early moments of Jesus’s resurrection in the tomb, the presence of two angels appeared to minister to him -Matthew 28:2. Mary Magdalene and Mary the mother of James entered Jesus’s tomb, and suddenly two men, dressed in white clothes that gleamed like lightning, stood beside them -Luke 24:4. When Mary Magdalene later standing outside the tomb, looked in, she saw two angels in white, seated where Jesus’s body had been, one at the head and one at the foot -John 19:23. Not only did the two angels of the Lord move the large stone from in front of the tomb, but they also provided Jesus with the clothing he would need for the coming days. Jesus appeared to the disciples and many others after his death and resurrection. Jesus’s last appearance on earth was in Bethany, where he was blessing the people, and while he was blessing them, he lifted his hands and ascended to the heavens in a cloud before their eyes -Luke 24:50.
