Painted in 1642 by French Baroque artist, Georges de La Tour. Well known in his lifetime, La Tour painted mostly candlelit religious scenes in Caravaggio style. After his death, La Tour passed into virtual oblivion for almost 300 years. He was discovered in 1915 by a German scholar who recognized La Tour's style in several pictures that had been attributed to several other artists.
