Each of these crosses are estimated to be older than 100 years, as cast iron techniques reached perfection between 1840 and 1890. Foundries and artisans created one-of-a-kind wax molds that were then cast using the sand-casting method. No two crosses are alike; each piece was created in a one-time use mold. Due to modernization of roads and change of the use of land (urbanization), these crosses have been uprooted from their previous homes as land markers, and re-homed as historical art pieces.
